Juan Pro

Juan Pro

Juan Pro is Full-time Professor of Contemporary History at the Autonomous University of Madrid (Spain). His main fields of specialization are the History of Political Cultures, Utopias and the State-Building Processes in Spain and Latin America. He has conducted and participated in several research projects on theses topics, being the Principal Researcher of the current project Espacios emocionales: los lugares de la utopía en la Historia Contemporánea (National Plan of R&D for 2019-2021). He participates in other projects, e. g. Beyond Stereotypes: Cultural Exchanges and the Romani Contribution to European Public Spaces (Project 2.002 of HERA call) and La herencia de los Reales Sitios: Madrid, de corte a capital (H2015/HUM-3415 Comunidad de Madrid-Fondo Social Europeo). He coordinates the PhD programme in Contemporary History of the Autonomous University of Madrid. His recent publications include: La construcción del Estado en España. Una historia del siglo XIX (Madrid: Alianza Editorial, 2019), Utopias in Latin America: Past and Present (Brighton-Portland-Toronto: Sussex Academic Press, 2018, Juan Pro, ed.), “Historia de la utopía: viajar en el tiempo” (dosier “Tiempos y temporalidades en Historia”, ed.
